Why Mice Move Into Bexley's Homes

The 1930s semis that make up most of Bexleyheath and Sidcup were built with cavity walls that mice use as a route between the roof space and the ground floor. A gap where a pipe passes through the cavity is often all it takes, and once inside they follow the same route from house to house along a terrace of similar builds.

In the older terraced housing closer to Bexley Village, shared walls and timber floors give mice a similar corridor to the newer suburbs, just through older construction. Scratching heard in more than one room usually means they're moving through a void rather than staying put in one.
Signs to Look For
- Small, dark droppings the size of a grain of rice, often near food
- Scratching or scuttling in walls, ceilings or under floors at night
- Gnawed food packaging, skirting boards or cables
- A musky smell in cupboards, drawers or under appliances
- Greasy rub marks along frequently used routes
- Nesting material — shredded paper or fabric — tucked in quiet corners
