Where Carpet Moths Settle in the Borough

Some of Fulham's older houses still have their original wool carpets, and carpet moth larvae feed almost exclusively on fibres like these. Damage tends to concentrate in quieter rooms — a spare room, a formal sitting room — where the carpet doesn't see enough daily traffic to disturb the larvae feeding on it.
Lower floors of riverside mansion blocks
In the mansion blocks along the river, carpets in lower-floor rooms and storage areas that aren't used often provide the same undisturbed conditions, and damage here can go unnoticed for a while behind furniture.
Signs to Look For
- Irregular bare patches in wool carpets, rugs or upholstery, often under furniture
- Small cream larvae or silken tubes in carpet fibres or skirting edges
- Adult moths — small and golden-brown — seen low to the ground rather than near lights
- Damage concentrated in quiet, rarely disturbed rooms
