Why it is not over in an afternoon

The adults you see are only part of a population. Egg cases wedged into cracks, and German females still carrying theirs, hold the next generation inside a tough protective shell. Young cockroaches go on emerging for a period after work begins, so clearing an infestation is a process over time rather than a single event.
What affects the timescale
- Which species you have, since German cockroaches breed faster
- How long the infestation has been building and how far it has spread
- How much food, water and clutter the insects can find
- Whether neighbouring flats or businesses have cockroaches too
- Whether shop sprays have already pushed the insects into new places
- How easy it is to reach the places they are living, including behind appliances
A house with a small, recent problem is usually simpler than a block where cockroaches travel between flats, or a busy commercial kitchen, which is quoted per site. Landlords with a property between tenancies in Kenton or elsewhere have one advantage: empty rooms and cupboards make access much easier.
German and Oriental populations
A large German infestation in a warm kitchen usually involves many overlapping generations and hiding places inside appliances. Oriental cockroaches breed more slowly, but their egg cases can sit unseen in cool, damp corners and hatch later. Each species brings its own timing, which is one reason to know which species you have.
Before the appointment

We will explain what to do beforehand. In general it helps to clear the worktops, empty the cupboards nearest the problem, move food into sealed containers and make it possible to get behind the fridge and cooker. Do not spray anything in the days leading up to it.
After the appointment
Keep the kitchen clean and dry, particularly overnight, and leave undisturbed anything you have been asked not to move. Avoid scrubbing areas you were advised to leave alone, and do not use your own insecticides alongside the treatment. Jot down what you see and when; it makes any conversation with us far more useful.
Signs that it is working

Fewer insects on each night check, and then none, is the clearest sign. For a while you may notice more cockroaches in the open, some moving slowly, and small nymphs as eggs hatch; seeing cockroaches after treatment explains why. Clear away old droppings so that any fresh ones stand out.
How DIY attempts can drag things out
Many people try a can from the supermarket before calling anyone, which is understandable. The trouble is that sprays reach only the insects they touch, can send the rest into walls, ceilings and the flat next door, and leave the egg cases intact. A problem that has been scattered in this way can take longer to bring under control, so mention anything you have already used when you get in touch.
Keeping the result
Once the cockroaches have gone, the habits that stop a new population settling matter just as much as the treatment itself. Sealing pipe gaps, cutting off water and checking what comes into the home are all covered in preventing cockroaches from returning. In the blocks of flats around Wembley, keeping the managing agent informed helps protect the building as a whole.
If sightings are not falling
Tell us what you are seeing and where. It may point to a source outside your home, such as a neighbouring flat or a shop below — can cockroaches spread between flats covers how that happens.
Booking
Cockroach control in Brent is charged at £190 for a flat and £240 for a house. Because German cockroaches breed so quickly, the sooner you book cockroach control, the smaller the population there is to deal with.
