Wasp Nests in Brent: Where They Are and What to Do
A wasp nest is started in spring by a single queen. By late summer a large nest can hold thousands of workers, and that is when most people notice it — usually because of a steady stream of wasps flying in and out of one gap.
Where nests turn up
Under roof tiles and in soffits and eaves, especially on the 1920s and 1930s houses of Kingsbury, Preston, Queensbury and Kenton. Inside air bricks and wall cavities in older terraces. In lofts, garages and sheds, in bird boxes, and in the ground under lawns and paths. Chimney stacks that are no longer used are another favourite.
What not to do
- Do not block the entrance — the wasps will look for another way out, sometimes into the house
- Do not spray a shop-bought product into the nest at close range
- Do not try to knock a nest down or cut it out
- Keep children and pets away from the flight path until it has been treated
What happens after treatment
Wasps coming back to the nest carry the treatment inside, so activity normally falls away over the following day or so rather than stopping instantly. An old nest is not reused the next year, so in most cases it does not need to be cut out. If the nest is still active within 30 days, we come back at no extra cost.
Wasps or bees?
