In a shared house, each room is somebody's home but the building is one environment. That matters most with bed bugs, which arrive in a suitcase or on a second-hand bed and then travel along the pipes and skirting boards to the next room.
How bed bugs spread in an HMO
They move at night, along wiring and heating pipes, through gaps behind sockets and under doors, and on clothes and bags carried between rooms. By the time one tenant finds them, a neighbour may already have them without knowing — not everyone reacts to bites. That is why treating a single room in isolation so often fails.
Why room-by-room pricing helps
Our bed bug price is £220 for the first room and £120 for each additional room. In a shared house that makes the cost clear before anyone argues about it: two affected bedrooms is £340, three is £460.
Tenants and landlords
If you rent a room, tell your landlord or agent as soon as you suspect bed bugs, and check what your tenancy agreement says. If you are a landlord, act quickly: an early treatment across the affected rooms costs far less than one after the whole house has them.
Before the treatment
- Do not move to sleep in another room or on the sofa
- Do not throw out furniture without checking with us first
- Wash bedding and clothes on a hot cycle
- Avoid shop-bought foggers, which scatter bed bugs further
