Carpet beetle bookings go wrong in one particular way: the room where the beetles are noticed is booked, and the room where they are actually breeding is not. Getting that right before you ring is the single most useful thing you can do, and it is what this page is for.
Work out where the larvae are, not just where the adults land, then book carpet beetle treatment or call 0800 955 2347.

Adult carpet beetles head for light. They grew up somewhere dark and undisturbed, then made for the nearest window to get outside to flowers, which is why a scatter of small mottled beetles on a sunny sill is such a familiar sight in spring. The sill tells you beetles emerged in that part of the building. It does not tell you they emerged in that room. Beetles on windowsills explains how to use the sightings as a clue rather than a conclusion.
The larvae are the ones that matter, and they stay put. Find where they are feeding and you have found the room worth paying to treat; treat only the room with the tidy row of dead adults on the paintwork and you may be back to square one next spring.

Where carpet beetles hide goes through each of those, and the London carpet beetle advice guide is the how-to for tracking a source down yourself before you book.
The room price is the same regardless: £180 for the first room and £60 for each additional room. What changes is which rooms go on the list. A top-floor bedroom with larvae along the carpet edge and a loft above it holding an old nest are two different spaces, and the honest answer is that treating one without addressing the other rarely settles it. Say on the phone what you have found and where, and we will tell you what the count comes to before anything is booked rather than after.

Interwar suburban houses with deep timber eaves, Victorian and Edwardian terraces with suspended timber floors, and top-floor flats in converted houses all give larvae room to work unseen. Roofs that have been converted into bedrooms keep their eaves cupboards, and those cupboards are where blankets, coats and cases of clothes end up. In a top-floor flat, the void above the ceiling may not be yours to enter at all, which is a thing to establish with the freeholder early.
An old nest in the eaves is one of the most reliable sources there is, because feathers and debris feed larvae for years. The law is straightforward: in the UK it is an offence to damage or destroy the nest of a wild bird while it is being built or is in use. Clearing therefore waits until the nest is finished with, and the roof repair that stops birds returning is a roofer's job, not ours. Tell us if you know or suspect there is a nest up there.
Before the visit, clear floors and vacuum the edges of the rooms on the list, and bag textiles that need washing. Afterwards, a few beetles can still appear for a while, and how long it takes depends on the property and how widespread the larvae were. If you are still finding larvae after the period we give you, get back in touch.
Carpet beetles do not bite, but the bristles on the larvae irritate some people's skin and can produce a rash that is easily taken for bites. This guide explains the difference. If a rash does not settle, speak to a pharmacist or your GP — we are pest controllers, not medical advisers. Where the marks appear overnight and there is spotting on the mattress instead, look at bed bug treatment.
All 33 boroughs are covered at the published room rates. Brent is the borough set out in full: see Carpet Beetle Control Brent and Pest Control Brent. If what you find in the pile is smooth, pale and leaves silky webbing, it is the other insect — this comparison separates them and carpet moth control is the page you need.
Treatment is charged per room: £180 for the first room and £60 for every additional room, so two rooms come to £240 and four come to £360. The count is based on rooms where larvae are feeding, not rooms where adults have been noticed, and halls, landings and stairs are not counted. Where a loft is part of the picture, raise it when you ring so it can be factored into the count and the price agreed before the visit.
| Treatment | Price |
|---|---|
| Carpet Beetles – First Room | £180 |
| Carpet Beetles – Additional Room | £60 |
Not necessarily. Adults travel towards light, so they may have emerged from the loft above or the floor void below. Check the carpet edges in that room and the space above the ceiling before deciding what goes on the booking.
Talk to us about it when you book. Lofts vary enormously in what they hold and whether they can be reached safely, so how one is counted is agreed on the phone rather than assumed.
Only once it is no longer in use, because damaging or destroying an active wild bird's nest is an offence. Blocking the gap afterwards is work for a roofer. The rooms below can be booked in the meantime.
Beetle larvae are short, bristly and brown and leave hollow shed skins; moth larvae are smooth and pale and leave silk. The larvae guide shows both clearly.
No — it deals with the insects, not the damage. Wash or dry-clean what can be saved, bag what cannot before it leaves the room, and store clean woollens sealed afterwards.
Ask the freeholder or managing agent, since the void above a top-floor flat is usually theirs. Your own rooms can still be booked and treated at the published room prices while that is sorted out.

Brent's borough, area and local service pages are live. The other boroughs are covered on the same published prices — call or send the form and we will arrange it.
Tell us where the larvae are rather than only where the beetles land, mention the loft and any bird nest, and we will agree the room count and price with you first.
