Why Webs Keep Coming Back in Older Willesden Houses
Spiders settle where the food is and where nobody disturbs them. The noble false widow is glossy and dark, with a rounded body and pale markings, and it is now widespread in London. Big, fast spiders crossing a carpet or sitting in the bath from late August to October are almost always male house spiders, grown up and out looking for a female rather than moving in. They came from the cellar, the shed or a wall gap, and in a terrace with a garden a few each autumn is simply the season. What Spider Treatment Can and Cannot Do
Treatment is aimed at the rooms where spiders have built up, and it can bring those numbers down. It cannot seal a house off from a garden, and it does not change the insect supply that brought them in, so anyone promising a spider-free terrace is overstating things. What pest control can do about spiders is honest about the limits. Where a room is unusually busy, it is worth asking what the spiders are eating: carpet beetle larvae in the fluff under old floorboards or carpet moths in a wool rug both feed a spider population, and whether lots of spiders mean another pest looks at that link.

- Pull stored boxes a little away from the walls and corners so those areas can be reached

- Say whether a shed or outbuilding is part of what you want looked at, so the room count is agreed first
