In a house with an attached or integral garage, the garage is usually where the first droppings show up. It is quiet, it is a few degrees warmer than outside, and it holds bird seed, a sack of dog biscuits, a bag of potatoes and cardboard nobody has taken to the tip. Signs Worth Checking Before the Clocks Change
- Droppings the size of a grain of rice in a cutlery drawer or on a garage shelf
- Nibbled corners on a bird seed sack, a bag of pet food or a cereal box
- A dark greasy mark at the end of a kitchen kickboard, where the same route is used nightly
- Scratching inside the wall of the back bedroom, or overhead, once the television goes off
- A musky smell in a fitted cupboard or the cupboard under the stairs
- Shredded paper or fabric gathered at the back of a low drawer or a garage box
